Deck on Moonpennie’s

After an intense morning yoga workout, I was running a little behind trying to get to the tradeshow, but I knew I needed to find lunch. So I headed out to find a little salad bar shop I’d seen only to find it closed. Disappointed, hungry and late, I kept working my way toward the Convention Center hoping to stumble onto something. And just when I was about to give up and just go to one of the 204 Starbucks (actually not making that number up), I saw Moonpennie’s and its sign promoting soups, salads and sandwiches.

When I took a look at the menu I realized that I would probably have to kind of build my own P90X style lunch, which I could accomplish by ordering the spinach salad and a roasted chicken baguette, then putting the chicken on the salad. I got in line to order and ended up mustarding there, getting more and more inpatient as the person in front of me simply could not figure out their drink orders or something. I have no idea why it is so exceedingly difficult for some Poe el to perform the most simple tasks, but for these folks it was a lot of effort.

Anyway, I finally got my lunch ordered, grabbed it when it was up, and rushed out to to the convention center to arrive just in time.  It was about an hour before I finally had time to sit down and eat, but I don’t think it affected things too much. The salad was a spinach salad, so nothing overly special…though one could argue it was under accessorized and over-dressed. Mostly just spinach leaves with an occasional treasure of a dried cranberry or piece of feta. The sandwich ended up being served on whole wheat which was good, so I could eat a few bites of bread off each.  The chicken was seasoned nicely and pretty flavorful, and there was a very light almost pesto sauce that accompanied it, but didn’t overwhelm it. I would have liked some more crispiness from the bread, either toasted or in the crust, but it wasn’t bad.

Moonpennies on UrbanspoonFor a quick lunch on the run, I think that it definitely hit the spot I was aiming for. It wasn’t anything that was overwhelming, and there were no wow moments, but it was good. And compared to the other two meals I ate on the same day, this one was the best. Maybe it’s a proximity bias because the other two ended up being so poor in my eyes, but I think it was ok. (how’s that for glowing luke-warm sentiment)?

Final Verdict – 3 Stars
