Deck on Chopped Leaf

How far would you walk for a salad?  What if it is a salad at a place that you’ve never been to before so you have no idea what you are getting?  Well for me, I discovered that it was 3/4 of a mile (or 1.3 km in Canadian). And I’m sure that there were places that served high protein, high veggie salads that I walked past, but I wanted to ensure I got what I was looking for and Chopped Leaf seemed the best bet in the area for the healthy/flavorful combination. The funny thing is that my buddy Nick discovered that he would walk that far as well…it was just unknown to him when we started…

The impetus for going all the way through downtown and past many different restaurants was the simple premise that Chopped Leaf offered “chef designed” salads. The ingredients were fresh, the salads were made when you ordered, and the combinations were a little more complex. Take for example the Pegasus, my choice for the day. The Greek inspired salad featured grilled chicken, romaine, feta, tomatoes, olives and a simple vinaigrette. Or, if you weren’t too keen on any of the predesigned salads, you could always go through the 6-step, build-you-own process. It seemed to require too much brain power for me though.

The Chopped Leaf on UrbanspoonAs far as salads go, it was very good. The portion was quite big, the chicken moist and warm as if it just came off the grill. Everything else was fresh and light and filling. It was very reminiscent of Mad Greens in Denver. Was it so good that it was worth the walk? Is any salad worth that type of walk? Not sure about that. But if you are going to make the walk, then this is what you want at the end of the rainbow.

Final Verdict – 4 Stars
