Don’t you just hate it when you do a post, think you post it, then find out you didn’t? Sigh…I had this one done a month ago…but forgot to hit publish. Oh well, it was still fun…
After spending time in Seattle and Napa Valley, we made Our way into San Francisco to finish up West Coast 2012. Originally the plan was to head to a Mediterranean restaurant down near the waterfront (I guess, I was just along for the ride). But when the 10:00 p.m. reservation combined with a long week, we decided that we needed to defer to plan B. Thanks to Ashley’s friend Lauren, this meant a tapas place called LoLo near her place (where we were staying) at 7:30, followed by a bar hop home.
Walking into to LoLo, I was surprised by the small size and wondered where we were going to sit. But a trek through a back hallway led to a larger dining room with a table that we had reserved. And before diving into my favorite part of tapas, lots of small plates to sample and share, we started with drinks. I opted for a root beer mojito each was deceptively good. Refreshing as you would expect from a mojito, but the root beer took out a little of the acid from the lime making it a little sweeter with the distinct, underlying, root beer flavor. I ordered two.
As for the food, the best way to show it is in the picture collage below.
- It looks small, but there was a whole other room in the back.
- The fried brussel sprouts were simple and delicious.
- The asparagus and cheese were simple and good, and the salad offered a little bit of freshness.
- I thought the salmon was a bit bland and wasn’t a big fan. Ashley on the other hand thought it was great.
- A little sweet, a little spice, a little crunch, and a little creaminess; the tacos had it all. Deliscious!
- Probably our least favorite dish of the night…the portabella flautas were mostly wrapper, overdone, and oily.
- Chicken confit tostadas were fantastic. The flavors of the chicken were bright and vibrant.
- My favorite of the night, the carnitas. A perfect dish for me with the tender steak, acidic bite from onions, the creaminess from the avocado and the finish of the blue corn. Perfect!
The food was good, the company was great and overall we had a great time. It wasn’t what the original plan was, but it ended up being just right.
Final Verdict – 3.75 Stars
